Program Overview

The following is a brief summary of the organization of the topics covered during the year. Dates and topics are subject to some reorganization prior to the commencement of the Institute.
Friday, September 16, 2016: Case studies highlighting both the subtleties and complexities of organizations will be used to explore critical issues.

Thursday, October 13, 2016: The emphasis is on program development and delivery for non-profit organizations.

Friday, October 14, 2016: The focus for this session is on managing external relations. This will include issues related to: media, constituencies, the public, political/governmental entities.

Thursday, November 10, 2016: This session will deal with governance and human resource capacities. Issues to be examined include: board responsibilities, staff responsibilities, legal structure (by-laws, tax code, and relevant statutes), and capacity issues related to the board, staff, volunteers, and clientele.

Friday, November 11, 2016: The focus is on financial resource management. Topics will include: budgets, meeting requirements of funding sources, meeting requirements of regulatory/oversight bodies and government, and meeting management requirements.

Thursday, January 12, 2017: The session will deal with financial resource development. This will include: solicitation of public and private resources, grant writing, fee-generating activities, and creative new ideas.

Friday, January 13, 2017:  The session will deal with accountability and assessment. Topics included for the day are: statistical measures, cost effectiveness, on-going evaluation, self-correction, and new directions.

Friday, February 17, 2017: This session will focus on program development and delivery for non-profit organizations to include the following topics: shared vision, good judgment and integrity, alignment of all parties and how to create that, team building and collaboration, and cooperation with other non-profits, government, and individuals.

Friday, March 10, 2017: The emphasis is on public policy. Some of the issues to be examined include: childcare, education, healthcare.

Thursday and Friday, April 27-28, 2017: The April meeting dates will be the culmination of the year's activities. Participants will involve themselves in a new case study where they will get to bring all the previous discussions to bear.
