Honorable Jim Hodges

jhJim Hodges received undergraduate and law degrees from the University of South Carolina, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He served as Lancaster County Attorney for three years and in private law practice for eight years. He later served as General Counsel and Secretary to The Springs Company, one of South Carolina's largest private companies with interests in real estate, railroads and insurance.

Hodges was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives in 1986 and served for eleven years before his election as Governor of South Carolina in 1998.   He served as Governor of South Carolina from 1999-2003. During that period, South Carolina initiated a state lottery for education, a landmark early childhood education program, and led the nation in SAT improvement. Governor Hodges was also instrumental in passing legislation to make South Carolina a favored domicile for captive insurance companies.

Governor Hodges is Senior Counsel to the McGuireWoods law firm and a Senior Advisor to McGuireWoods Consulting. He is also Executive Director to the National Alliance of Life Companies, a coalition of small and mid-sized life and health insurance companies.

Hodges and his wife, Rachel, live in Columbia with their two sons, Luke and Sam.
